The grief of losing a child is unbearable, each person deals with it in different ways, and most often, it’s easy to find faults in others in the way they deal with things. In The Darkest Lies, Melanie has to face the unthinkable as a parent. Her ways of dealing with grief is by being a totally different person from what she used to be, she finds fault with her husband, befriends an old friend and starts drinking, gets into her head that each and every one in her village knows the truth about her daughter and starts accusing people left, right and center and goes way above the detectives following her own line of inquiries and thus creating problems all around.

I liked the plot of the story even though most of the characters were unlikable. The writing style of this author is quite different, most times its like a conversation that the person is having in her mind and its not consistently followed too, so most readers might feel the lack of flow in the story. But Barbara Copperthwaite has surely written a very compelling and engaging story which is unputdownable.

Thomas wakes up in a world that isn’t his. A world where magic and violence are omnipresent, and his parents are still alive. Now the son of a Count, Thomas needs to face the dark secrets of his alter ego, a young man who looked just like him but wasn’t as simple.
