Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ahem, confession time, this was supposed to be my Valentine week read but crazy me, skipped a whole week to get to it. Well, am glad finally, I did thou instead of tucking the book into a crazy corner of my TBR.

Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard has been popping up on my recommendation list for a long while, honestly, have also realized I haven’t read that many books in the romantic suspense genre even though it is one of my favorites and Linda Howard is one of the most well-known authors for this genre. In fact, there are only a handful of her books that I have read so finally got to this PERFECT book which occupies a solid position in almost all BEST LISTs. There are probably 100’s of them in the web where this book occupies No.1 or definitely falls in the top 5. After reading it, of course, I wholeheartedly agree, the romantic chemistry between the leads was scintillating and laced with a dollop of humor, Mr. Perfect turned out to be a winner.

Janie, T.J, Luna and Marci are friends and colleagues working for a software firm. A socializing after-work drinks and banter lead them to create a list of how Mr. Perfect should be which boomerangs into a media frenzy that none of them expected and of course repercussions follow. T.J, the only married one in the group faces the most difficulty but each of them are having troubles and of course it also brings out the loonies determined to prove the women wrong.
Janie and Sam’s wordplays are humorous with some witty wisecracks that had me burst out laughing at odd times. It was also so much fun to read the office signs put up by the computer nerds. The story is actually quite bleak with only pity and sadness left for the antagonist but it was brilliant how the author used humor to keep the mood uplifting and the love-hate relationship between Sam and Janie that was exhilarating.

But what made it a solid 5* read for me (even though I did guess at the villain), was the warmth of the friendship and love that is shared by the 4 friends and even the love that shines thru between Janie and her sister.

What would make the perfect man?

That’s the deliciously racy topic that Jaine Bright and her three girlfriends are pondering one night at their favorite after-hours hot spot: Mr. Perfect. Would he be tall, dark, and handsome? Caring and warmhearted — or will just muscular do? As their conversation heats up, they concoct a tongue-in-cheek checklist that becomes an overnight sensation, spreading like wildfire at work and sizzling along e-mail lines. But what began as a joke among friends turns deadly serious when one of the four women is murdered….Turning to her neighbor, an unpredictable police detective, for help, Jaine must unmask a killer to save her friends — and herself. Now, knowing whom to trust and whom to love is a matter of survival — as the dream of Mr. Perfect becomes a chilling nightmare.
