My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Have you read Life After Life by Kate Atkinson? Hailed as a classic with numerous awards to its name, I am probably the only outcast who was not head over heels in love with its plot. When V E Schwab’s The Invisible Life of Addie Larue was said to be in similar vein to Life after Life, I was a bit sceptical to take it up dreading the boredom but am so happy to have been pleasantly surprised with this unique concept of a girl winning the odds against the devil.

The concept of never dying is YES surely intriguing but what happens when every second you have to re-introduce yourself and end up as always invisible to everyone around you. Once the basic facts of Addie’s curse is established there are not many surprises in store except for the interactions with Luc. The story picks up tempo as Harry is introduced, a guy who is destined to feel everything in double doses. Extremely sensitive and melancholic, Addie is not forgotten by Harry and thus starts a beautiful relationship of companionship and friendship more than romance. Addie believes that she has succeeded over Luc after 300 years of lonely existence, but is everything as it seems?

Addie haunts a reader, her stubbornness in never giving up, her mute resistance in fighting against the devil and finding loopholes against her curse, leaving imprints of herself thru art, silhouette pictures, paintings of the freckles on her face, each of the aspects were simply mind-blowing.

The Invisible Life of Addie Larue is a literary classic for its portrayal of a unique story of a girl who will never be remembered. The climax was surprising and unexpected but probably the best for the story. The ending tone of Addie in winning the fight left me hopeful for another adventure.

Hats off to Addie for her strength and grit to live life to the fullest!

France, 1714: in a moment of desperation, a young woman makes a Faustian bargain to live forever-and is cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets.

Thus begins the extraordinary life of Addie LaRue, and a dazzling adventure that will play out across centuries and continents, across history and art, as a young woman learns how far she will go to leave her mark on the world.

But everything changes when, after nearly 300 years, Addie stumbles across a young man in a hidden bookstore, and he remembers her name.

In the vein of The Time Traveler’s Wife and Life After LifeThe Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is New York Times bestselling author V. E. Schwab’s #1 New York Times Bestselling Author genre-defying tour de force.
