Ok, first things first, if the title of the book is making you think of curling up with a glass of chardonnay in hand, DON’T, unless you are ready for it to come out sputtering out of your mouth or ears and whatnot, coz this is Darynda Jones at her best. Crazy and addictive police procedural this is a must read for all just for the guffaws you can encounter in this novel. Again if you have no patience, just read the chapter tag lines or short anecdotes which itself is gonna leave you in splits.
Sunshine Vicram is back and how, Book #2 in the series and you better read them in order unless you wanna risk the explosion in your brain with the introduction of the whole host of characters. The Sheriff duty was supposed to give her a breather but what can she do when her town is full of quirky people including a raccoon who have their own ideas of having fun. In A GOOD DAY FOR CHARDONNAY, Darynda Jones brings in more than one mystery and ties it up expertly with the past mystery of Sunshine’s abduction. The smoldering and sexy chemistry between Levi and Sunshine is finally on its track and I am probably the only one, but I just wanted more of Levi’s brooding darkness.
Even though the author maintains a steady humorous pace with the snarky banter between almost all the characters in the story, there is also a heady mix of emotional touch with Cruz’s loss and the trauma of Auri’s selfless walk into danger. The warmth of friendship between Quincy and Sunshine is another highlight of this series. Even though the main mystery gets a resolution, the story ends with a delicious cliffhanger that gives the reader breathless excitement for book #3 A Hard Day for a Hangover, and I just can’t wait for the enigmatic Wynn Ravinder to join the fun!
Just don’t expect serious police procedural with Sunshine Vicram series but highly recommended for fans of a good mystery and laugh out loud humor, the kind where your family is gonna stare at you goggle-eyed.

Running a small-town police force in the mountains of New Mexico should be a smooth, carefree kind of job. Sadly, full-time Sheriff–and even fuller-time coffee guzzler–Sunshine Vicram, didn’t get that memo.
All Sunshine really wants is one easy-going day. You know, the kind that starts with coffee and a donut (or three) and ends with take-out pizza and a glass of chardonnay (or seven). Turns out, that’s about as easy as switching to decaf. (What kind of people do that? And who hurt them?)
Before she can say iced mocha latte, Sunny’s got a bar fight gone bad, a teenage daughter hunting a serial killer and, oh yes, the still unresolved mystery of her own abduction years prior. All evidence points to a local distiller, a dangerous bad boy named Levi Ravinder, but Sun knows he’s not the villain of her story. Still, perhaps beneath it all, he possesses the keys to her disappearance. At the very least, beneath it all, he possesses a serious set of abs. She’s seen it. Once. Accidentally.
Between policing a town her hunky chief deputy calls four cents short of a nickel, that pesky crush she has on Levi which seems to grow exponentially every day, and an irascible raccoon that just doesn’t know when to quit, Sunny’s life is about to rocket to a whole new level of crazy.
Yep, definitely a good day for chardonnay.
