My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I have been on a roll with some fantastic books off late finding the funniest ones in my favorite genres. And, YES it has been necessary amidst the turmoil of the new variant of COVID and the threat of another lockdown bearing down on us here.

The Ex Hex was one of those books that I read with a smile throughout. The author Rachel Hawkins writing as Erin Sterling has worked wonders in creating that perfect small town vibe during Halloween🎃🎃🎃. I could imagine the town with all the orangey color adorning the shops. Vivienne was a character one can’t help but be in love with, her heart is broken so obviously, she burns some candles, drinks vodka, joins hands with her cousin, and mutters some curses. Nothing was supposed to happen isn’t it, it is just crazy fun, but something does happen.

Rhys the charming boyfriend is back in town after nine years in line with family dictate to recharge the ley lines, but everything is going haywire, biting toys, a talking cat, falling statue heads, chaos seem to follow him.

Rhys is adorable and the cute banter between him and Vivienne brightened up my day. There’s a small mystery with old wounds and revenge playing into the curse on Rhys’s family but there are no terrifying events and I’m glad the author retained the lighter vein of the story throughout. The major portions of the story have the leads rekindling their romance and therefore, the curse and its effects on ley lines do not trouble the reader much too. This is one book where I realized that the F-word would cause me to sputter out laughing. That alone proves Rachel Hawking’s exceptional talent in comedy and I hope she does continue this series coz this is one rom-com that I would be keen to return to.

The Ex Hex is an easy to read witchy romance novel brimming with zappy energy that is sure to bring a smile to your face.

New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins, writing as Erin Sterling, casts a spell with a spine-tingling romance full of wishes, witches, and hexes gone wrong.

Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two.

That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong. With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all.

Suddenly, Graves Glen is under attack from murderous wind-up toys, a pissed off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say. Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late.
