My rating: 5 of 5 stars
A Heart So Wild took me back into those pre-Goodreads times when I used to devour historical romances by the day and forgot half of it. Having read a fair share of Johanna Lindsey’s books, I am probably re-reading this, but it did satisfy all my cravings for a good western historical romance.
I adore such stories, a gunslinging hero, rugged, all that cowboy looks and ready to kill at the drop of a hat, well, you can call me crazy but I do love them, LOL, the stark surroundings, the traveling thru the wilds where the hero and heroine indulge in their share of heated looks and passion, there’s all this and also a solid story in A Heart So Wild that makes it remarkable.
With the romance that should keep all readers happy, the opening chapter of the book is, however, beyond words painful with rape and murders that can cause distress. Chandos is the quintessential mysterious hero hell bent on seeking revenge against the perpetrators and Courtney Harte is the heroine who may unknowingly derail his plans. It was interesting to see how her timid nature changes to one of confidence and the subtle humor she brings forth under certain circumstances.
The journey becomes the reason for their subdued desire to roar into flames and the moments where Chandos gets possessive protecting her, calling her his “cat-eyes” were quite drool worthy. Johanna Lindsey has always managed to elicit that “ooh” and “aah” from me in most of her stories and this was no different.
This is one book in the western historical romance genre that I wouldn’t mind re-reading any number of times.
Courtney Harte is certain her missing father is a alive, lost somewhere deep in Indian territory. But she needs a guide to lead her safely through this dangerous, unfamiliar country, someone as wild and unpredictable as the land itself. And that man is the gunslinger they call Chandos.
Courtney fears this enigmatic loner whose dark secrets torture his soul, yet whose eyes, bluer than the frontier sky, enflame the innocent, determined lady with wanton desires. But on the treacherous path they have chosen they have no one to trust but each other–as shared perils to their lives and hearts unleash turbulent, unbridled, passions that only love can tame.
