Book Review
Powerless by Lauren Roberts has been popping up on my list everywhere and now that I have read it I am honestly in two minds. If you ask me whether I loved the book, well, I’m not jumping off the cliffs as was expected with the hype this one had but I was not bored either.
Lauren Roberts has captured the yearning between the two characters so beautifully, the longing, the craving for that one person whom you cannot have, is wonderfully crafted that for a time I wanted to dive into the book and get Paedyn and Kai together, the consequences be damned. And that is simply the power of writing by the author. The banter between them had sparks flying with sizzling chemistry but it is this that I had a tough time with coz there is only so much that slooooow drawn driving can be endured. The dialogues began to have variations of the same sentences and in a way it felt like talking about the same thing in 100 different ways which after a time began to drag.

Kai is one character that any female can drool over, and Paedyn, with her fiery and indomitable spirit, never letting go, was thrilling.
The cut throat competition designed by the king to elicit pain and grief could have been more gripping, in many instances, I thought the element of fear and tension could have been elevated but the author faltered at these points.
I did enjoy reading this, though. However, if you ask me to spend another two books to learn about Paedyn and Kai, I would say I call it quits.

Book Blurb
She is the very thing he’s spent his whole life hunting.
He is the very thing she’s spent her whole life pretending to be.
Only the extraordinary belong in the kingdom of Ilya—the exceptional, the empowered, the Elites.
The powers these Elites have possessed for decades were graciously gifted to them by the Plague, though not all were fortunate enough to both survive the sickness and reap the reward. Those born Ordinary are just that—ordinary. And when the king decreed that all Ordinaries be banished to preserve his Elite society, lacking an ability suddenly became a crime—making Paedyn Gray a felon by fate and a thief by necessity.
Surviving in the slums as an Ordinary is no simple task, and Paedyn knows this better than most. Having been trained by her father to be overly observant since she was a child, Paedyn poses as a Psychic in the crowded city, blending in with the Elites as best she can to stay alive and out of trouble. Easier said than done.
When Paeydn unsuspectingly saves one of Ilyas princes, she finds herself thrown into the Purging Trials. The brutal competition exists to showcase the Elites’ powers—the very thing Paedyn lacks. If the Trials and the opponents within them don’t kill her, the prince she’s fighting feelings for certainly will if he discovers what she is—completely Ordinary.
