My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Is it just me that connected to Stephanie being a new mom with colicky twins that leaves her sleep-deprived? Quite amusing actually that in a mystery thriller, I was more immersed and concerned about Stephanie’s trouble of not getting enough sleep and having no one to help in the first few months especially with twins both suffering from colic. And as if the nightmare wasn’t enough, Erica is back into the life of her husband Patrick accusing him of murdering his first wife who died in an accident.

An addictive thriller with short chapters that forces the readers to read at a very fast pace, The End Of Her never lets go of steam and had me completely hooked into my kindle. Like in most books by Shari Lapena, there are multiple voices in this story too as the readers are made aware of the different lives being put in turmoil by Erica. I so wished that they all join hands together and win over the evil menace in their life like in the movie. Well, that’s my wishful thinking but the climax of the story did not work as it should have. After that explosive storyline, the decisions made by some characters felt off but maybe expected as each person in the story has something or the other to hide and none of them were likable enough.

The problem of having a quick and intense thriller is that sometimes the characters do not get fully fleshed out so having an ending like that left me unexpectedly hanging coz there’s was no easy way to guess what could have happened. This is a thriller that had a riveting opening but fell a tad short of brilliant at the climax. I am a huge fan of Shari Lapena and The End Of Her once again proves her skills and truthfully, I would the first in line for her next publication but this failed at the finish line for me.

Convincing 3.5 stars! ☔☔☔ 💧

The new domestic suspense novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door and Someone We Know

In upstate New York, Stephanie and Patrick are adjusting to life with their colicky twin babies. The girls are a handful, but Stephanie doesn’t mind being a stay-at-home mom, taking care of them while Patrick does the nine to five to pay the bills.

When a woman from Patrick’s past drops in on them unexpectedly, raising questions about his late first wife, Stephanie supports her husband wholeheartedly. She knows the car accident all those many years ago was just that–an accident. But Erica is persistent, and now she’s threatening to go to the police.

Patrick is afraid his job–and his reputation–will be at risk if he doesn’t put an end to Erica’s questioning immediately. And when the police start digging, Stephanie’s trust in her husband begins to falter and Patrick is primed to lose everything he loves. As their marriage crumbles, Stephanie feels herself coming unglued, and soon she isn’t sure what–or who–to believe. Now the most important thing is to protect her girls, but at what cost?
